পুরস্কার আমার মা সবার বড় ছিল বলে মামা বাড়িতে আমি দাদু দিদিমার একমাত্র নাতি ছিলাম। যেহেতু সবার ছোট মামা মাসিরা আমায় সব সময় মাথায় করে রাখতো। সমগ্র সূর্যনগর কলোনীতে তখন আমার রাজত্ব। বড় মামা কলোনী কমিটির দাপুটে সেক্রেটারি তার সাথে চার চারটে মামা আমায় বকবে এমন ক্ষমতা সারা কলোনিতে কারো ছিলো না। মা মাসি মামারা অবৈতনিক সরকারী স্কুলে পড়লেও আমার বেলায় নিয়মটা আমার মেজোমামা বদলে দিল। নিজেই স্কুলের টাকা পয়সা দিয়ে আমায় একটি কনভেন্ট স্কুলে ভর্তি করে ছিল। মামাদের মধ্যে ছোটবেলায় যাকে সব থেকে বেশী কষ্ট দিয়েছি সে হল আমার ছোটমামা। আমার থেকে মাত্র পাঁচ ছয় বছরের বড় ছিল বলে ওর সমস্ত জিনিষ আমি নিজের মনে করতাম। ছোট মামা ছোট থেকেই খুব শান্ত আর অসম্ভব রকমের ক্রিয়েটিভ। সে কাঠ কয়লা গুঁড়ো করে তার মধ্যে কেমিক্যাল দিয়ে বাজী বানানো থেকে ঝুলন পূর্ণিমায় ঝুলন, কাগজ কেটে আর্ট ওয়ার্ক, পেপার ম্যাকেট, রেডিও বানানো ওর ক্রিয়েটিভিটির তালিকা লিখে শেষ করা যাবে না। আমি যেহেতু কিছুই বানাতে পারতাম না আমার খুব রাগ হত। তাই ছোট মামা বাড়িতে না থাকলেই ওর গুছিয়ে রাখা জিনিষ খাটের তলা থেকে টেনে টেনে বার করতাম আর সেগুলো দিয়ে এক্সপেরিমেন্ট করতে গিয়ে সব নষ্ট করে দিতাম। ছোট মামার এই নিয়ে কম ক্ষোভ ছিল না কিন্তু নিরুপায় ছিল, দিদা না হলে ওকে খুব বকবে তাই চুপচাপ আমার অত্যাচার সব মেনে নিত। একবার ক্লাস সেভেন এ স্কুল থেকে ঠিক হল আর্ট এন্ড ক্রাফ্ট প্রতিযোগিতা হবে অন্য আরো স্কুল সেই প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করবে। স্কুলে সেবার সাজো সাজো রব, যে করেই হোক প্রথম পুরস্কার চাই। ক্যানাডা থেকে পাস্টার বান্তেন আসবেন পুরস্কার প্রদান করতে। স্কুলের প্রধান শিক্ষিকা নির্দেশ দিলেন অবিলম্বে ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের মনোনিবেশ করতে এবং প্রত্যেকে একটা করে আর্ট এন্ড ক্রাফ্ট জমা দিতে। আমি তো অথৈ জলে, প্রথম কিছু সপ্তাহ করছি করছি করে কাটালাম। তারপর দেখি বন্ধুরা একের পর এক নিজেরই সব অসাধারণ শিল্প কর্ম করে স্কুলে জমা দিচ্ছে। স্কুলের স্যার আমায় কদিন বললেন "তোমার আর কত দেরি হবে " আমি বললাম হয়ে এসেছে দিয়ে দেব। মনে মনে তো বুজতে পারছি এই ভাবে বেশি দিন এড়ানো যাবে না। তাই অগত্যা ছোটোমামাকে বললাম ও যদি একটু সাহায্য করে কিন্তু ও রাজি নয় কারণ তার আগেই আমি ওর বানানো রেডিওর এন্টেনা ভেঙে আমি মাছ ধরবো বলে বড়শি বানিয়েছি। মা কে বললাম মা যদি ছোট মামাকে একটু বলে কিন্তু মা রাজী নয়। অগত্তা দিদাকে বলতে হল দিদা সোজা রান্না ঘর থেকে ঝাঁটা বার করে ছোট মামাকে এমন বকা লাগলো ছোট মামা পালতে পারলে বাচে। যাক এবার ছোট মামাকে বাগে পাওয়া গেছে। কিন্তু সমস্যা অন্য জায়গায় হাতে আর সময় নাই। ছোটমামাও করছি করছি করে আমার সমস্যাটা বুঝেও বুঝতে চাইছে না। প্রতিযোগিতার আর একদিন বাকি স্কুলের স্যার তো আমায় এই মারে কি সেই মারে সবাই কিছু না কিছু করেছে আমি ছাড়া। বুঝলাম প্রতিযোগিতা শেষ হবার পর কপালে বেশ দুঃখ আছে। অবশেষে প্রতিযোগিতার সকালে স্কুল যাবো না ঠিক করেছি কারণ সারা স্কুলে অপরাধীর মত থাকতে হবে বলে, মা দিদা জোড় দিচ্ছে স্কুল যাতে কামাই না হয়। ঠিক সময় রিকশা কাকু মামাবাড়ির সামনে হর্ন মারা শুরু করেছে। হঠাৎ ছোট মামা আমার হাতে একটা বাস্কো ধরিয়ে দিয়ে বলল " যা স্কুলে গিয়ে খুলবি " ভয়ে ভয়ে বাস্কটা স্কুলের এক্সিবিশন রুমে নিয়ে গেলাম, ক্লাসের স্যার আমায় ডেকে ডিসপ্লে টেবিলে নিজেই বাস্কটা খুলতে শুরু করলেন। কাগজের বাস্কের মধ্যে থেকে একটা অদ্ভুৎ ছোট নারকেল গাছ বেরিয়ে এলো দেখে মনে হচ্ছিলো কেউ বনসাই বানিয়েছে। স্যার তো দেখে অভিভূতো সমস্ত স্কুল জুড়ে দাবানলের মতো ওই গাছের কথা ছড়িয়ে পড়লো। প্রতিযোগিতায় ঘোষণা হল বড় এলাচ আর তেজপাতার দিয়ে আমার তৈরী নারকেল গাছটিই সেরা। পাস্টার বান্তেন যখন সবার সামনে আমায় মেডেল দিলেন তখন সারা অডিটোরিয়াম জুড়ে তালির বন্যা। এত কিছুর মধ্যেও আমার মনটা ভারাক্রান্ত হয়ে রইলো, মনে হচ্ছিলো গলার মেডেলটা ছুড়ে ফেলে দি, সবাইকে চিৎকার করে বলে দি আমার যে কোন যোগ্যতাই নেই , এ সব কিছু আমার ছোট মামার প্রাপ্য। না, বলতে পারি নি কারণ আমার সৎসাহস ছিল না, কিন্তু মানসিক ভাবে যে কষ্ট পেয়েছিলাম তা ভোলার নয়। আমি আর কোনো দিন ছোটোমামার কোন জিনিষ ধরি নি।
